    270 bullet question

i own 5 270's and they all shoot plain old remington 130grain core'lokts under 1" so i cant complain.
question is this...........the 130 remingtons dont pass thru and i usually found them on the opposite side just under skin. killed close to a dozen deer last year from 40yds to 305yds on a mule deer and all deer died in their tracks except for one that ran about 80 yds. none of the deer had a pass thru.
i guess i shouldnt worry but i wanna punch thru them so they leve a blood trail.
what bullet should i use? i dont handload so please stick to factory loads..
    thanks

Try the Hornaday light magnums...same weight of bullet...I had that same problem with my 25-06 and 120 grain bullets...I solved it by going to a 300 Win Mag with either 165 or 180 gr.bullets....I get a pass thru now....left to right or end to end...

Well think of it this way...
The bullit expended all of its energy in the animal, mushroomed to it's max and did the job you would expect.
To pass thru the animal the bullit had enough energy left to exit, fully mushroomed or not.
If you never have to track because it DRT'd isn't that better for you and your animal?

Federal Premium with the 130 grain Trophy Bonded tip bullet.

I agree with Boomer57. I once read that what you are complaining about is exactly what you want. A bullet that goes ALMOST all the way through because it expends all of it's energy. A bullet that goes through has extra energy that isn't being put to good use.

Yeah, Hornady. I uses the Super performance SST. It works great. Kinetic energy smack down. Have always dropped in there tracks. I was using core locks and had one run off (with good placement).

What Boomer said. I shoot a Ruger .270 using the same ammo as you (sometimes I go up to 150's). If I don't get a pass-thru I get a deer that just drops like a sack of onions, meaning that there animal took 100% of the energy. When I do get a pass-thru (like on yotes) it's really a blow-thru....small entry wound with half the animal missing on the exit side. Still an efficient use of energy.

When I used the Federal Safari loads, I'd get pass-thru's every time and the deer would run 40+ yards before falling.

I prefer NOT to have to track, so if I get no pass-thru, but I get a DRT, I'm good to go.

I shot core-loks for years and had to switch. The last 5 deer I double lunged with them ran off like they weren't hit. No blood trail, nada...I did find all 5, within a 100 yards in the brush but no blood trail I could find. I switched to Winchester Supreme 130 gr. Ballistic tips and all the deer I've shot since except one was DRT. The one that ran only went 40 yards and Stevie Wonder could have blood trailed it.

I use 130gr barnes tsx bullets and never been able to recover one! I am super pleased and have never let me down. Shot a bear in the chest at 70 yards and did a total pass thru, felt for sure i could recover that bullet but exited the rear! literally.

I shot the corelokts for years, but a buddy of mine bought me a box of the 140 gr SSTs and they are awesome on deer and shoot like lasers. Shot 6 deer with it and every one as been DRT, same result on javilinas also.

I have enough faith in this bullet that it will be making a trip up to Alaska this summer to shoot a black bear if the cards fall right.

Berger 130 VLD. If your gun will group em youll never stop using em. You can buy em loaded from HSM.

I'll also throw in a vote for a Hornady SST as second place.

X2. My .270 eats the core locks also. I would rather a no pass through and a DRT then a pass through and a tracking job. I see it as my duty to as a hunter to kill quick and cleanly. And we'll seems your doing that.

I used to use federal premium 130 gr nosler ballistic tip now reload still using same bullet though. Never had an issue. The gmx and sst by hornady never shot consistent through mine or my wife's even when hand loaded. Barnes are great just pricy.
