    Charter Arms 38

Anyone shoot a Charter Arms Off-Duty 38 or similar version? I've read reviews online...about half good and half bad.

At only 12 oz and under $400 it seems like a decent pocket gun.

I've got one of the older ones.

I had issues with the warranty (or lack there of).

I'd hold out for a SP101 from ruger.

Or you could talk me out of mine. It has custom barrel work done to it.

      I haven't shot a Ruger, but I do miss my S&W.

These dang guns have gotten so expensive the last couple months....and hard to find.

Charter Arms is not my choice for a gun I trust my life to. Spend a bit more and buy a S&W 642 or similar. They are only $450ish new. If you plan to carry in your pocket get a hammerless!

wife carries an off duty special 5 shot. got it for her in 89'. never had a problem with it. She is pretty accurate out to @ 15yds which for cc is fine for what she wants it for. Paid $120 for it new

I love my S&W airweight! I had a CA for two days and traded it off. It was ok at best.

I owned a .44 Bulldog and put a lot of rounds through it for years and never had an issue. I would own another one.

Well, I received the Charter Arms "Off Duty" 38

My chief complaints are that it weighs 14 oz instead of the advertised 12 oz (confirmed this on two scales) and that the mechanisms need to loosen up a bit. It's a little "gritty" compared to say a S&W 442. From what I've read, this should loosen up after a 100-200 rounds. Reminds me a bit of my Kahr.

It is lighter than the 442, and has a nice look to it. I think the rubber grips it comes with are nice, though I wouldn't mind dressing it up a smidge. The trigger pull is long and even... to me that's a good thing. Some reviews said that it was long and then got harder to pull at the end. I don't find that to be the case.

For those wondering, I picked it up on Gunbroker for about $150 less than a 442. I'm not familiar with other concealed hammer snubbies, but I assume they would be $100 or so more expensive also.

Lets see the pics already. I have been eyeballing them as well. I have owned two charter arms before and regretted selling both if them. They were front the late 70's though.
