    Buckshot range?

What do y’all think the effective range of a 12ga 00 Buckshot would be? I have a coyote coming up to my house trying to kill my chickens. Last night I took a running shot with my AR but missed. Both my 12ga should shoot 3"

My uncle killed a 200 # boar almost 100 yards away.
One BB hit him in the brain and dropped him on spot, not sure how high he pointed or what shot size exactly.
But I could not believe it at all , until I saw it.

My Dad shot a coyote at about 75 yards with buck shot a while back. It was chasing some calves.

Thanks....I wonder which one would be better for the farther shots, 00, 000, 0000 buckshot?

I don't know, but I am watching this thread. I killed a nice doe with my "tactical zombie apolapse shotgun" with a slug. When I ran a few rounds of buckshot through it...I believe I had the improved cylinder choke in it....the pattern was very big at 20 yards. All over a feed sack.

I have been meaning to put in the other chokes and do some experimenting, but have not done that yet.

Well the better thing to do would be pattern your weapon and find out, most weapons will not pattern good with 00 buckshot past 30 yrds..

But if you are going to use 00 buckshot PLEASE use Federal's 00 buckshot with the flight control wadding.. the wadding will keep the pattern tighter to farther distances..

I shoot 3" #4 for coyotes. 50yds is my confident range with an extra full extended choke. You'll need to pattern your gun with a specific load to know how it patterns and where its hitting at longer ranges.

every shotgun is different. Pattern at 50 yards to start and see how your gun shoots. I have one that shoots 000 great and another that does not. There are also alot of chokes available on the market just for buckshot. Read up on them and see what others are doing. When I did shoot buckshot I would not hesitate out to 100 yards, but I had also spent alot of time trying out different chokes and brands of buckshot.

I'm pretty much dedicated to slugs now and have one 870 set up just for it.

P.S. Take a sand bag for your shoulder, you are going to need it. LOL

Thanks. I planned on pattering my gun to see how it shot but wanted a ruff guess. I thought I saw a bunch of buckshot at our WM but when at lunch and all they had were slugs. Guess I will try and pick up a few different type the next time im in academy.

Stay away from the Olin Military 00 buckshot....it is trash and will not pattern worth a poop..

If you can use buckshot, why not use a 22? Or a 17? Just curious. Shoot him in the face and be done.

I like #4 buck 3" mags. 41 pellets of shot. I have confidence to 60 yards in the stuff. I would shoot further if it is just a yote.

figured it would be easier to hit a running coyote with buckshot
