    long range zero?

What do you guys prefer your zero to be for a long range hunting rifle? Possibly up to 1k eventually but the majority 600yd or less. I can't decide if I want to leave it at 200 or bump up to 250 or maybe 300. Either way I'm headed out to shoot and get some practice in before a hunt this weekend and figured if I was gonna change now is the time.

So what do you guys think?

I am about to set my rifle up again when I pick it up from the gunsmith tomorrow. I will have a 100yd zero on it. I will dial up from there.

100 yards. I am assuming you will be dialing in elevation. As long as you have enough scope adjustments no reason not to start at 100. Only takes 3.5 mil from there to 500.

100 yards. I use a 20 moa base and a scope with moa turret adjustment.

If you know your "dope" it is just a few clicks to what ever distance you need.

Also I use a zero stop and so a 200 yard zero wouldn't be too conducive to my hunting situations.

Id just leave it at 200. Really You can only shoot as far as your scope lets you adjust for. But then again a lot more goes into long range than just your scope.

I considered this as well. I think I have the same scope as you (NF NXS)? My reasoning for hunting is with my 300RUM zeroed at 200yd it's only 1" high at 100yd and 5-5.5" low at 300yd. Then the only real adjustment needed would be 300+.

Would this not be better for hunting only with no target shooting?

                      It's a 300RUM built on a Rem.700 action.

Have you every tried hold offs? Assuming you shoot with a mil-dot or Horus reticle? Just curious....

Yea I'm not sure why I didn't think of just doing that for closer ranges.. I guess I'm over thinking or just bored with not changing anything

Meaning you don't have to know what you're doing with a 200yd zero? Not sure I understand your help
