    Vortex Viper HS 4-16x44 opinions

I've got a .264 win mag that needs some glass and this one has caught my attention. I primarily run Leupold and Zeiss but all the vortex hype has my curiosity peaked. It'll primarily be used for hunting with some range work done at 500+ yds. Any real world experience with these? Light gathering abilities at dusk and dawn? Clarity above 10x?

I have two I bought from arrowsmith, I had an issue with the objective cell on one but vortex took care of it ASAP. Great customer service. I love the scopes, glass is super clear and really like the 30 mm tube. I would highly recommend them!!!!

Have the VHS in 4x16x44 in BDC and is my favorite scope.

Originally thought fine cross hairs would be a challenge with night time varmint hunting, but turned our to be false.(Getting older and sight ain't what it used to be) Scope pics up plenty of light from offset spot light, fine cross hairs help on long distance shooting.

Day time shooting in all light conditions is a breeze. Finer cross hairs are great to reach out and touch something.....

Dropped by gun on scope dragging a deer and thought O' _ _ _ _ there goes my cross hair accuracy. Never lost a beat as "where I put the cross hairs it hits that spot"

Mike - "Arrowsmith" will take care of ya and you won't look back - lifetime satisfaction...... I have the binoculars as well

I have the next higher power vortex viper (4x16 or 18 x 50). Is it "great" - no. but for the money you cant beat it. Serves my needs perfectly. My only complaint would be eye relief and light gathering above 10x but it hasnt proven to be an issue yet and as faras iknow it may be great - I really havent looked through scopes side by side for comparison. Customer service is like none other if you ever need them. Satisfaction and then some.

Just throwing this out there - my $219 Redfield Revolution (4x12x42) with accu??? is pretty freakin amazing. I wish they made it in a higher power but they dont. I have one on my muzzie and every january it amazes the heck out of me as to how a 219 dollar scope is so clear. I love the reticle.

            Thanks for the input fellas.
ted, I've heard the same thing about the eye relief above 10x. Like I said though, I've never looked through one to see for myself. Starting to hear lots of positive things about the Redfields too. Glad to see Leupold is bringing them back.

Checked with Vortex on the availability of the HS with BDC reticle. Looks like they won't be sending any out to their dealers until mid to late April. Hmmm, decisions, decisions, decisions.

I have several Vortex scopes and bino's and liked them great.

I just got the Viper PST 6-25x50 and so far I'm not happy with the clarity at high power. It is pretty clear in the center but hazy around the edges. Customer service thought I had my eye too close to the scope but I have moved up, back & over and I can't find any where that the whole scope is clear.

I had the exact scope on my custom 7mm Rem. it's a great scope with good glass. The glass is not near as clear to my eyes as my Zeiss Conquests.

I ended up selling the scope simply because of how heavy it was.

Given the choice I would take Zeiss over Vortex but I do like Vortex. And you get a lot of scope for the money with them

Checked with cameralandny (I've bought Zeiss from them) and they won't have any until late April.
The HS has a slightly larger objective lens, little more eye reliefe, thinner reticle, return to zero turrets and different magnifications. The 4-12 viper PA is very similar.
