How long is powder good for?

Ok, probably a stupid thing to do...I put some powder in a container in a storage unit about 3 years ago. Is it still good? The unit is not climate controlled.

If it does not have strong acid smell, it probably fine. I shot some ammo from WWII that was fine and went bang everytime.

I have powder that is 20yrs old, always kept climate controlled. Still goes bang.

I've got some in paper cans with metal top and bottom, that must be 40 years old. Never been climate controlled and never had any issues.
