A whole new world (of 22 ammo)

Call me sheltered, call me naive, but before all of this mess with the Obamascare these last two months, I had literally only fired two kinds of 22lr ammo in my entire life; Remmy Golden Bullet and Federal copper hp. I've been monitoring the gunbot website that finds available ammo in stock online like many of you, and then it hit me.

Where have all these brands been in my life? Fiocchi? Eley? Lapua? Even CCI?! And all of these varying grades of ammo, along with their price tags!!!??? So far the most expensive I've seen is the Eley Club at $.58 a pop. *throws up a little in mouth*

Have these rounds always been out there at these prices, or is this a bit reflective of the supply/demand gouging trend?

They've always been around, but not always at the big box stores aside from the CCI. As far as the Eley goes it is match grade ammo and has always been very expensive for 22 ammo.

They've been around.. Just when the 500-525 round count bricks were under 20 bucks and available at any wm you never voiced the match stuff... Unles you were in a shooting event.

.58 is wayyyy too high for club. 10X is about $38.00 / 100 ct and it's the good stuff and still available last I looked.

Cci has been around a long time, not sure on the others.

If there IS any benefit to this recent ammo craze, it's getting me to step out of my ammo rut and increase my experience with rimfire ammo. Since the middle of January, I've been able to find a few boxes of CCI standard velocity, several boxes of CCI Velocitors, some Winchester X "hunting" ammo with a pretty high claim for velocity at over 1400 fps, a box each of Remmy Cyclone and Viper, and a brick of Federal Target Auto, supposedly to really shine in semi autos, which is the kind of rifle I own.

I look forward to shooting all of these different kinds, seeing how they work in terms of accuracy and intended use, ie plinking, expanding well for hunting, etc.

Without this ammo shortage it might have been a long long time until I'd ever branched out into different ammo flavors.

Those federals shoot great for us, we were having issues with stove pipes and just jamming issues with some of our really old .22s but after switching to these they cycle flawlessly. They also shoot really well out of a marlin 795 and a remington 597, I have not grouped them out of the 10/22 or marlin model 60 yet, but I can easily keep a 10 round <1.5 inch group with irons out to 75 with both of those guns more than good enough to kill a rabbit or coke can.

Eley wants to know if you've been living under a rock

They've been producing rimfire ammo since 1828

If you follow the RF world championships and Olympics , that's all they shoot

I blame my father for not taking me shooting enough! In fact, he only gave me a 22 rifle to me for Christmas about 5 years ago, and I'm 34!!

Oh, I also bought some Fiocchi, heard good things about it too.
