Budget Rifle- Savage Axis?

One of my local pawn shop/gun brokers can order an XS7 for $305 shipped. If you can find it for that price or close to it, my vote would be for the Marlin. I think it's an all-around better gun, out of the box. Maybe not by a huge margin, but the trigger alone would sway my vote.

That being said, the Axis is so easily accessible right now, sitting in that gun case in the store...!

Sounds like the only knock on the Axis is it's trigger. I wasnt aware that timney made replacements for the Axis, I have timneys on a couple of other guns and really like them.

My only problem now is, do I buy the Axis and upgrade the trigger, or go find a marlin x7 that already has a decent trigger. Seems like the price would be about the same.

the Marlin X rifle will take savage barrels and can be a rebarrel just like the savages. i like the savage action a little better, and the floating bolt face is a nice touch for a good seat.
