Getting an FFL

The small company I work for is thinking about getting an FFL. We have some ideas for firearms and accessories that would be cool to do. Any detailed help would be awesome. We are inc and have a permanent location. We would want to be able to manufacture fire arms and sell them.

Questions like...how often do you get audited? What does it do to insurance? How long is the license for and how much?

You need to be more specific...are you going just to sell guns and the accessories seperatly, or are you going to permanatly alter or put guns together??

Any sort of mfg will require an 07 FFL & ITAR certification vs an 01 dealer who sells basic & common weapons.

If you want to sell full autos, SBR's and suppressors, but will not mfg anything, then you need an 03.

Audits vary greatly from dealer to dealer & pricing varies on which one you get. ATF has a good website.

An 07 will cover you...not sure what the cost is for that particular one but can ask. ITAR will run you +/-$2500 & is something pretty new.

I don't quite understand how they justify ITAR unless you are supplying the military, but hearsay is all 07's must now aquire it.

07 is said to be around $3k/year vs. $500/year for an 03.

Check with the city in regards to your new biz before you contact ATF...all city & state regs must comply before you can receive the ffl.

Dealing with ATF was easy...all they require is you comply with city, county and state laws before you can get your lic. They will vary from area to area. Just check what they require and then ask for an interview with the atf agency in your area. They were and have been more than helpful with any issues I have had.

You are already ahead of the game as you already know about the Tax ID and good faith estimates in regards to city/county taxes for items used for the business.

We had our ATF interview 2 weeks ago. So now its just a waiting game. They say about 4 weeks to get your license. As soon as we get our FFL I will apply for our Class 3 SOT for suppressors and SBRs.

The process was pretty simple. Currently setting up dealer accounts. Our doors should be open soon!

They told me 2-4 weeks after my interview as well. Had my interview 6/24 and still no license. The IOI said she recommended us for approval so I'm not sure what the hold up is. I called her at 4 weeks and she told me to wait 6-8 weeks. This is the 8th week of waiting. I hope yours goes faster!
