    who molds their own bullets?

due to the extreme shortage and difficulty of finding bullets as well as curiousity, im thinking bout trying to start molding my own lead. any tips or techniques? special tools?

Lyman publishes the best books on the subject, as well as having the best tools and equipment available. I don't know what rounds you want to make bullets for, but hardness requirements change with different rounds. Too soft, and you'll have leading problems. Wheel weight lead is pretty hard. Read all you can and check many websites to get other peoples' experience. I started to get into this a while back, but didn't have time or space for the equipment. Good luck and keep us posted on how it works for you.

I'm getting close. I'm gonna use a Lee mold and tire/wheel weights. Sage is a good place to get gas checks. I'll be casting for my 50 Beowulf.

I've casted for years using Lee molds, sizers, and production pot. Mainly handgun bullets. I prefer to use pure lead and alloy with 5% tin vs wheel weights. I flux the lead with parrafin.

ive looked into it but not sure if i shoot enough to risk the lead poisoning from the fumes.

I just ordered some 9mm from Missouri Bullet co today. Email said expect 3-4 week delivery. I can live with that!

3k 9mm for $195.40 delivered will last me a quite a while. If I cast my own obviosly it would be a lot cheaper but a lot more work as well.

Btw, My cast Missouri Bullet 9mm cost 5.07/50 to reload if anyone is curious. Thats using Universal clays from a 8lb cannister and tula/wolf primers.

Would be curious to know how much it would cost if I cast my own. I would probably buy the lead/tin ready if I did since wheel weights can be hard to find.

It depends on what you pay for the lead and the mass of the bullet. I would estimate about $0.05 for about a 200 grain bullet. Of course that't not including your initial costs. Typically a Lee mold would be paid for after 100-200 bullets.

Just remember on both .380 and 9mm that the case length is very critical. The round seats in the chamber against the front of the case. You may want to buy a case trimmer and a micromrter.
