Scope for a NEF youth .243

I picked up a NEF youth single shot .243 for my 7 year old yeserday. I have an older Bushnell 3-9x40 scope I am thinking about putting on. just glancing at it, the scope looks a bit long for the gun. Should there be a problem mounting the scope on this rifle?

My son has a Simmons 3X9 44 magnum on his, it should fit fine.

Thanks, I didn't think it would be, but holding them up together it just looked odd.
