    Need help bluing a gun

Never tried this. Any product recommendations? Are the retail products any good? .....or should I have it professionally done. It's an old 410 my dad wants blued. I've sanded and polished the metal to a high luster. If professional is better, anyone know of a place in the DFW area and approximate cost for a 410?

Place in California does it and was highly recommended. Most people won't due it sue to the hazmat involved. I'll see if I can find the name. Ship it directly to them and it takes about a week.

Only advice I've got for you is don't even think about doing it yourself. Call around to local gun smiths until you find somebody that is set up to do it. All of the do it yourself cold blue stuff on the market is o.k. for little touch ups. But, not for anything even approaching a full blue job.

So look for a gunsmith then.

            what make/model .410 ?

if it's a Winchester 42 type gun, get it done professionally

if it's a NEF or Stevens basic single shot, send it to someone fairly reputable

a satin bead blasted finish will normally run around $135

high lustre blue will cost $250 +

I would definitely let someone else do it IMO. I couldn't find anyone in Dallas.

Another option is to get it cerakoted black if your just wanting a good strong coating on it. If your wanting to make it look restored then send off to be blued.

My dad is 82. This shot gun belonged to his mother. 1930s. Rusted, pitted and neglected but has sentimental value. It's a 1930s diamond arms co. 410

I sanded, polished it. It doesn't have to have a high luster as its pitted in multiple areas. Just want to put something on it.. It will probably never be shot. Dad doesn't hunt anymore, it just has sentimental value and he was upset he left it neglected. It polished up nice, still pitted in several areas

for about $125 you can get the metal duracoated or ceracoated. I'd recommend this over bluing since it's pitted so bad. with the aforementioned "coatings" it won't rust again and be a perfect wall hanger

Ooo in that case I would have left it alone. My papa passed a few years back and he gave me an old beat up 22mag I never did anything to it and shoot it all the time it will stay the way he shot it and I love it.

It was essentially covered in rust and pitted. it needed help. Too late now though. I saw a place called Doc's in Carrolton Texas. I might call them monday. Seems they have been around for quite some time.

Look up rust bluing. You can do it yourself.

Why not do it yourself if it will never be shot... you can still clean otbup and put blue on.. its pretty easy. And cheap to do. Just get a blueing kit..

What's the worse case if I do it myself and don't like it. I can send it to a pro if need be, correct?
