    Thinking about a Ruger Mini-30...

Is the 7.62x39 a good hunting round?

Trying to justify the purchase. A little help please.

    I've never hunted with mine.

Buy an AK, SKS, and 10k rounds of ammo first.... That justified the purchase for me.

Convo in my head: oooohhhhh nice a mini 30 at Walmart....it's on sale..... Well I have a ton of ammo for it..... Sounds good.

Lips say: excuse me do you work in sporting goods?

This was years back. Mostly it just sets. But it is fun to plink with.

Sierrra gameking has several great hunting rounds in .311 DIA so if you handload it would be best for this gun. I have mine and I LOVE IT! Granted i've not hunted with it yet, its a great range rifle.

No doubt there's a fun factor with AK ammo. Seems to be readily available and costs less than .223.

How much should I expect to spend per round for 7.62? Pre/Post panic buying of course.

              http://www.gunbot.net/index.php?cal=762x39

36 cents a round right now.

I used to buy wolf ammo 1000 rounds for 79-100 bucks... but that was back in the 90's (Ammo cans are your friend when you find deals)

I'm buying a brass cased Romanian JSP for $7.75 per box of 20. Highly underrated hog and deer round.
