I see a lot about long range shooting. I have neve had the opportunity to shoot long range. Well, I can at my lease in junction, but where do y'all go to practice? What is considered " long range?" over 200 Yds? What is too far? Just for sport or hunting situations?

Everyones definition is going to vary... I have my own places to shoot, I havent found a public one just yet. I know camp bullis has a 1000 yard range I can get to, just havent done it. For me, longer range is anything out past 400 yards. Shooting an inch square at 300 yards isnt hard. Long range shooters usually try to get to the 1000 yard mark and beyond. It gets very tough when accounting for environmental factors, angle, bullet spin drift, etc etc etc. It's just a challenge to take on once you get tired and bored of shooting everything all the time at 300 yards and under for me... Too far? is non-existent. It's the challenge of pushing yourself and your rifle to the maximum you can do. It is for sport and hunting. Many of us love to shoot targets. And a lesser select few have the opportunities to hunt at extended ranges. Me for example, I have a 150,000 acre ranch in the davis mountains in Sierra Blanca, Tx I hunt mule deer, aoudad, big horn sheep, and mountain lions. Out there, a 600-800 yard shot at a 220 plus boone and crockett mule deer is a once a week occurrence, and you want to be able to make that shot when it gets presented. because BELIEVE ME!!! IVE MISSED THE SHOT TWICE BEFORE AND IT MADE ME WANT TO PUKE TO SEE THAT MULIE RUN AWAY!!!!! The terrain is SOOOO rugged, if you stalk him and loose sight of him, you will never find him again... Thats why the long range comes into play for me.

and to answer your question about hunting etc. there is no way id take a shot over 500 yards at a deer right now. i have the eqipment and knowledge but not the skill yet. i hope to and will be giving my best effort to be able to hit one at 8-900 by mulie season. but i will test all this on hogs first
