Who's done it? How hard is it? Any advice or info? I'm not very familiar with them but have always wanted one. I just don't want to spend $1000+ on one if I can build one for less and it be the same quality. Figured I'd see what the GS says before I jump in.

It is fun. If you are mechanical by nature is will be easier than expected. We have kits that are partially assembled for the do it your selfer to work with. You can order with the serration and sight cuts of choice or not at all. Here are slide to frame fits, and you can also get short block kits that include the barrel fit and recoil system installed.

Excellent Chris! Yes, I'm mechanical by nature and that's mainly the reason I wanna build one. I was thinking about just acquiring each piece but the kit thing would probably be the best bet for my first go around. I've really thought about the STI's too so that's a plus! I'm definitely going to give it a long thought. Thanks again!

The 1911 is a true engineering masterpiece, especially considering it was designed over 100 years ago.Last edited by 47; 02-04-2013, 09:37 AM.
