the only thing that worries me is the "mental health issues" portion. Veterans like myself who have been diagnosed with PTSD may have that right revoked. i have my CHL but mental health issues can cover alot of ground in the hands of the the liberals.

Drugs are already illegal...background check or not!
What is a deeper background check going to prevent?

Against! Due to all the BS language they have put into it that has nothing to do with what the real problem is.

Against, new laws or changes will not help. It will just make things more difficult and expensive for law abiding citizens. Criminals will still get what they want. Heroin and meth are illegal, does that stop people who want it from getting it? Why would guns ever be any different?

I've seen a lot of good posts in this thread, and I am changing my tune based on common logic. First and foremost, there are plenty of laws on the books, and they don't prevent the evil doers from doing evil - they never have, and they never will. The shooters in each of the school shootings broke the law. How about that? They broke the dang law. So, in effect, we already have laws on the books that should have prevented the school shootings; if laws prevented crimes.

Next, is the whole mental health issue. Mental Health is not an exact science. Sometimes I think the mental health professionals are the most messed up people I know, and I know some. But, mental health can most certainly be considered a health issue, which places it under HIPAA laws. A lot of people don't think about what a slippery slope publishing medical records can be. Where do you draw the line? Who's qualified to draw that line? In my mind I can see the government moving the line to suit their needs after the fact. I don't trust any of those clowns in DC to make these decisions for me.

In CA all private-party firearm transfers, other than to family, go through an FFL today. You fill out a 4473 just like a new firearm purchase. Plus a 10-day waiting period to get your weapon.

Look at the crime stats in CA and you'll see if it makes any difference. I believe not.
