    Reloading bench, fluorescent lights?

I read that fluorescent lights can affect your scale, is this true? Was wanting to put a 4' over my bench? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Not sure.. but you can take a radio UHF/VHF and turn a fluorescent light on by keying the mic and holding it on the bulb. (interesting fact of the day)

Has anyone ever heard of this? I just bought a RCBS loadmaster with electronic scale. I have always used a beam.

Digital scales can be sensitive to some things. My brother was weighing powder when his girlfriend turned on the microwave and the scale went nuts. The magnetic field of a fluorescent light placed too close to the scales could mess with it.I would think if you place the light 3 or 4 feet away you would be OK.

Anything that puts off rf will affect it. I had a energy saver bulb in my Reloading room and my scale kept jumping up and down. Changed the bulb to a regular type and problem went away.

I use a beam anyway, but I use a digital to weigh and check each scale against each other.

x2 just check vs beam scale to see

If you have it 3-4' above the scale, it'll be fine. I've had a fluorescent light fixture over my bench for years without issue and checked the scale repeatedly when I first installed the light.

I recently built a new bench with shelves on top. They cast a shadow over the back half of the bench. To fix this, I installed LED light bars under the bottom shelf. With the LEDs, there's no fluorescent interfere with the scale issue, nor is there any heat from an incandescent or halogen or xenon bulb, which I figured wouldn't go well with the gunpowder. Lowes and Home Depot both have them.

It's on the ceiling. I checked it against my beam scale last night. All seems well? Thanks for the input guys.

Air movement from a fan or a/c vent near can also cause problems.
