    AR ammo question

I just finished my first AR build- all parts are from Spikes Tactical with expectation to a Palmetto Armory lower parts kit. The BCG is from Spikes and has a chrome bolt assembly. It cycles brass ammo perfectly- however when I tried to shoot some steel cased I had a failure to fire on the 5th round. After reloading another magazine it happened again. I know the ammo is good because it functions properly in my other gun. Any ideas?

I have 3 DPMS and buddy has a bushmaster we were told when we purchased them they didn't shoot steel casings well.

M4 feed ramps? Is BCG 'wet' w/lube? Did it chamber the round properly but didn't fire, like a light strike?

Spike's & PSA should have ZERO issues shooting steel.

It has M4 feed ramps, BCG was not "wet" and pin did strike the primer and dimpled it. It also properly ejected the round.

My spikes feeds steel no problem but I run it wet.

Try spraying the BCG and run it again.

Sounds like I need to get some lube. The new build is a mid-length 14.5 pinned and welded barrel. The gun that the ammo functions fine in is a spikes carbine 16". Didn't know if that might be a factor contributing to the situation.

Tommyh nailed that one. Spikes won't have any problem but dry w/ steel will get you exactly the headache you're having.

If you lube it and you're having the same problem, then it's time to inspect everything.

I think if the pin struck the primer sufficiently then its not a dry problem. But start by running the BCG wet. CLP, Rem oil whatever will work. Even some 30W motor oil. Once u figure out if this is the problem then you can invest in some better lube.

Cop buddy of mine that runs 1000's of rounds a year through his uses Mobil 1. Dunks the whole BCG in it, coouple of shakes, and goes to town with it. First shot or two is pretty messy.

I have a buddy at work that does this with all his guns....it's not fun getting sprayed with oil in the face. First time I shot his rifle I didn't know what it was.....

Lubed my bolt well. Shot 12 rounds and had a failure to fire. Shell properly ejected and primer had been struck. Could it be the headspace?
