    Drilling a cleaning hole in a 10/22

Who has had a cleaning hole drilled into the back of the receiver on their 10/22? I have heard of several custom receivers that have this. Anyone recommend a smith that can do it in the Houston area?

I've drilled them in mine by myself with no problems.

What size hole? A 3/8" hole seems about right. And where would you get a bushing collar?

I just ran a cleaning rod from crown to back of receiver and marked where it lined up. That is where I drilled my hole large enough for a cleaning brush to go through. I drilled from the back of the receiver, opposite of the video Blake posted. Hope this makes sense.

Is that done just so that all dirt and burn can be pulled completely through the barrel?

Some people don't want to clean a gun from the muzzle end for fear of damaging the crown of the barrel. This allows you to clean the traditional way, from the receiver end.

What's your thought on the bore snakes? I have used them on my shotguns and think they do okay the first time you use them. I think you just keep pulling the same junk back through.

Idrop the bore snake through the receiver and pull it out the end of the barrel. Twice usually does the trick for me.
