I been looking to make my first hand gun purchase in the next few months. Does Texas have a waiting period for 5 days? I googled some and said there is no waiting for period.

There's no waiting period. Before the mad rush, a background check could be completed within a few mintues. You can be delayed if for some reason your name is flagged. This can happen if you have a very common first and last name or if someone else with your name had done something to be flagged.
I did hear of a few delays over the last couple of weeks due to the shear volume of calls going in for the checks though.
Just get a CHL and no more waiting for any of that.

When your background check is done you will get one of 3 possible results:
1). Approved. You pay for the gun and walk out with it right then.
2). Delayed. You can be delayed up to 3 days while further investigation is completed.
3). Denied. If denied you can look into why and see if legitimate.
