You can drink just not if you're gonna be carrying. Shouldn't be anyway.

If your planning on having a few drinks....keep the gun at home or in the truck!! Your laws may be different than ours, but if I remember correctly, I cant carry into a business where 10% or more of their sales are alcohol.

if the place of bizzness has a 51% sign, don't carry. The is no legal limit for a chl holder...2 sips from a beer seen by a cop, and sees you weapon, you can loose...there is a forum of texas CHL...laws are explainded...

You can drink all you want, just don't have your ccw on you when you do it.

They address all this in the course.

From what I remember is that if an officer feels you are impaired in ANY way big trouble for you. So that leaves it wide open for interpretation. They don't necessarily go on the state min level of intoxication.

If you have Any drinks, gun must be locked away and out of reach. Trunk, tool box etc...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Only you will know if your ready to be a responsible CHL permit holder. It's not anything to be taken lightly in my opinion.

                Advantages:
                1. Can carry most places in public on your person.
                2. Don't have to pass background check to buy firearm from FFL.

                Disadvantages:
                1. None (except maybe the cost).

I will disagree that you cannot drink as the law says you can't carry while intoxicated. No matter, if you want to drink and are worried about it, simply don't carry. If you didn't have a CHL you couldn't legally carry anyway.

That's pretty much it. There's no set "limit" like there is for driving so it's all up to the oficer. I wouldn't carry if I had been drinking anyways. But of course you can't carry into a bar( look for 51% signs)

It will all (or should) be covered in your class.

Personally I wouldn't think twice about getting your CHL It all comes down to what value you put on the safety of you and your family. No reason not to get it in my opinion.

^^^ this, a single beer can impair judgement, and god forbid you have to use your weapon , what is to say you made a sound judgement

Exactly. If you do have to use it a prosecuter will tear you apart in court if you had any alchol in your system. Better to be tried by 12 then carried by 6 I guess, but If i'm out and been drinking, I'm not driving anyways and my fiance is usually with me and she knows how to use a gun pretty dang good. So I'm not worried about that.

Just gotta be smart about it.

It doesn't matter if you made sound judgment. It only matters if you made a legal judgment.

If you are in your own home drinking a few brewskies while watching the football game and a guy breaks into your home and you have to kill him, it only matters if it is legal, not if your judgment was sound.

There's no disanvantage for having a CHL. Like said, if you didn't have a CHL and were out to dinner and had 1 beer you wouldn't have a gun anyway because w/o the CHL your breaking the law anyway.

                          Pros:
                          1 Your armed
                          2 Your armed
                          3 Your armed

I know any day may be my last but if it's by some crackhead/junky/carjacking thug, he's gonna have to beat me to death with my empty gun!!

That is one of the topics on the state legislature's agenda this year, to "clarify" the law.
