Ok I am wanting to get started in reloading. With recommendations of the GS I decided to go with RCBS rock chucker. Now looking at midway usa and a couple other places there sold out of primers allot of bullets and powder. Will they always be hard to come by? or is this just a passing thing? Or have they been in short supply for a long time? I never looked for them until recently. I guess I chose the wrong time to think about venturing into something like this.

recob's target shop
Haven't looked since monday, but they had powder.
What caliber are you reloading for? There are places on the net where you can still find *some* once-fired brass...but it's going fast as well.
Bullets...depends on what caliber and brand. Rainier ballistics seems to be in stock for handgun ammo.
primers...can't help ya much on that one. no stores I know of have any in stock.

Just like anything gun related right now....hard to find. Before the craziness you could find everything you needed no problem. Start collecting brass (even the ones you don't shoot) until this stuff blows over. If it helps, Cabela's was the last place that I found small pistol primers. I also know of a small shop in Dallas that is full of everything but powder.

I havnt ordered the press yet. I couldnt see spending $300. for the kit if there were no components to reload with. Looking to reload sw40, 243, 270 . I guess my main concern or question is before spend the funds for the press will the complements to reload always be hard to get? I may just set on my funds and see what happens in a month or so.

There's nothing wrong with waiting, it's your money. A big misconception for a lot of folks is they think they will save a ton of money with reloading. Many times thats not the case. You usually see the savings when one the components is free or readily available. I only reload common calibers that you would find at the range like 9mm, 40, 45, 5.56, etc....so I never have to order brass. Also, I mold most of my plink'er ammo so I don't have to buy projectiles as much.
Reloading is fun and I do enjoy it. I find it more productive then sitting on a couch staring at the tv.

ordering primers and powder online is almost pointless without doing large orders because of hazmat fees for transporting dangerous goods. the rest can be picked up online if you dont have a source locally, but right now, finding anything is going to be a nightmare. i got lucky and found a shop in houston who is limiting primers to 500/person/day if they have it in stock. anything .223 is going to be iffy unless youre looking for 36-50gr pills. once fired anything is sold out.
its the same thing that happened last election cycle
