Find some old paper hulled shells or have someone load some uber light loads. Pressures could be an issue in a gun that old.

just seeing this ... very nice Rueben
as noted above , I would be very hesitant to shoot modern shells in that LC Smith
older guns were designed to shoot paper hull shells with blackpowder
newer shells could result in serious damage to you or the gun
i would only consider low brass light loads if you shoot it

I was going to shoot a low brass 8 but I may just leave it be. I'd cry if I hurt this gun.

you'd also cry when you got the repair bill
this old LC Smith would have to be repaired by an expert (such as Turnbull) and they would charge you an arm & a leg

It doesn't look like Damascus. If it was built in the early 1900s it was built for smokeless powder. I would have it checked by a gunsmith that is knowledgeable in double barrels. If its in good shape, no barrel pitting, and the action is tight, I would hunt with it using low brass loads. I can think of no more fitting tribute to a grandfather than hunting with a gun that he used.
