    6.5 PRC…why should I keep it

Traded a couple feeders for a sweet Tikka T3 stainless cut down to 19” and a hellaciously nice trigger. While I don’t have a “6.5” in my lineup now, I have it completely surrounded with .243 Winchester Featherweight, .257wby Mark V (dad’s favorite gun and killed my last 5 animals), custom 7x57, 7prc and a couple 30-06.

I took the trade with full intention of flipping it. Sell me on why I should keep it and try to do better than “just because”.

If i had the calibers you mentioned, id do what i originally planned and flip it.

But then again, I’ve got several calibers that overlap.

With a 19” barrel I would sell it, it’s basically a 6.5 CM at this point

          Not really….. a 19” 6.5cm would be a ****.
I can squeeze 2900 FPS out of my 6.5prc with a 20” barrel and 130s. Your gonna probably be 250fps or more slower than that in a gaymoor

Not really a good reason to keep it, but also no good reason NOT to keep it.

Probably will see velocities similar to a 22-24” barreled 6.5cm but in a short package. Especially if you run a suppressor that short barrel would be a nice bonus. I have a Ruger precision rifle in 6.5creed. Believe it’s a 24” barreled and I see 2750-2800fps with a 143eld, just depends on how hard I push the reloads. I’d imagine you can see that out of a 19” PRC.

Thank God someone else understands ballistics.

If you take a look at the ballistics that 6.5 with a good projectile will likely have a better BC than the rest of your fleet. It won't matter for shooting deer at a feeder at 100 yards but if you do stuff like Antelope in Wyoming where you're dealing with wind calls it sure can help.

As stated the short barrel PRC is basically a normal length CM, but a short barrel CM would be even slower so the PRC makes sense so you can retain some extra velocity and still have a nice short platform for suppressors.

The one downside is if you start shooting that Tikka you probably won't use any of your other rifles very much. That whole setup is probably the best thing I could think of for an all around do-all rifle.

I have a Bergara 18" 6.5 CM and factory Superformance 129gr SST gives 2821 average. It's obviously slow with heavier more normal projectiles but as long as they reach minimum expansion velocity at intended range it's not a big deal.

Negative but being short is the exact reason I wouldn’t sale it, it’s already cut down.

OP for real world not opinion

                      6.5 SAUM 20” barrel
it’s a very slow load, accuracy node hit, and called it good, it’s literally with in 150 of CM
                      Dall sheep @ +-575
                      Caribou @ +-425
                      RMBHS @ +-565

its headed north in Aug and south in Jan this year for stone then Mexico for DBHS/Mulie combo to complete the slam. It’s a tikka action.

Regardless of the velo some think it won’t make, even then it’s plenty.
