testing out an iphone on a spotting scope

well, played with the 3d printer and made a cell phone mount for my leupold mk4 spotting scope...
It turned out ok , but it was windy and the tripod could not handle the wind ..
overall happy with the camera mount .. on a calm day it will look good...
Now i just need to download an app to keep the auto-focus from trying to readjust.. I had bought one for my other phone.. just need to find it ..
We shot plates from 300 to 750 ... but the platform I built to shoot from has a sun screen around it and the wind was blowing it around pretty bad ... kinda like the spotting scope.
    made some decent hits considering .. 6 creed , 223 and 6x45 ...
    here is the video ...

If the iPhone is ‘digital zoom’ I would zoom in with the scope (optical). I learned this using digital camcorders back in the day. Just a thought and worth a try.

frankly, I'm not sure how apple does it , if it's oversampling or not but the main issue is the mk4 has 2 rings and if you zoom in on the spotter , it changes the focal length and it has to be re-focussed. and the focus ring is what the mount is attached to , so as you turn it to focus , the picture and cross hairs get sideways .. my buddies tried it that way on the video... for that reason, i prefer using the phone. Now to be fair , i have an old camcorder that i've tried taking footage with but i find the spotting scope to be a better option , not to mention that the spotter can now just look at the screen instead of having to get their eye into the spotter .. and multiple people can spot . and you get recording to boot to see the vapor trail on replay to better spot your misses .. all in all .. half a day of thinkering in fusion 360 and i have a tool that seems to work well for what i intended. is it perfect ? no .. but it's better than what i had before ... before my buddy always complained he could not see in the spotter when i adjusted it for my eyes.. now we can both look at the phone screen and it looks good for both of us .. and we can now focus on our shooting skills instead ...

Is the focus and exposure lock not working or am I misunderstanding the problem?

I use the phone skope app on my leupold spotting scope. It also lets you choose which camera on the phone you want to use.

I used an app called pro movie on my other phone and it gives you access to all the settings you can imagine.. more intuitive and works great

                Yep.

Also (helps when taking photos/videos) when you use the auto exposure/auto focus feature, to the right of the square where the reading is being taken for the AE/AF, you should see a vertical bar with a sun on it. You can adjust the exposure level by sliding your finger up and down.
