    Researching Muzzleloader Scopes

    Is a 3-9x40 too much?

I have a CVA Eclipse Hunter with an old tasco pronghorn scope.
    Looking to up grade.
I think 3 might be too much inside 100yds.

    What do you all use?

    I use a Leupold 3.5x10

Leupold 3-9 x 40. Shots out to 125 yards, but usually 50 yards.

I just got a 3.5-10x50 Leupold for a new slug gun build this past fall. I've used 4x inside 50 yards many many times over the years. If they are inside 10 yards, just look down the side of the barrel. Also have a 2-7x32 on another slug barrel. And a 4-12X40AO on another slug gun.

I do have one 2-10x42 Nikon Monarch mounted on a rifle barrel. It cost a bit more 15 years ago than the 3.5-10x50. But is the cats meow for inside 350 yards!

I’ve had a few on my CVA Wolf

First was a cheap Cabellas house brand 2-7x32. Did its job, but low light performance was terrible.

Jumped to a Vortex Crossfire 3-9x40. Again, did its job just fine and the low light performance was better.

Won a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 and decided to put that on there. That was ideal if you ask me. Close up 25yd shots to the 175yd shot it did it all.

Needed the Diamondback to put on a buddies rifle, so I ordered a cheap Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 off eurooptic and again, does its job just fine but the low light performance isn’t as good at the Diamondback was.

I bought my muzzle loader probably 15/18 years ago and put a Leupold 2x7 only used it a couple seasons on NM hunts.

I bought a Leupold Muzzleloader Ultimateslam and like it a lot.

Every shot counts, but when it comes to a muzzleloader, your first one needs to be on because there's rarely going to be a second. With the UltimateSlam® reticle designed specifically for muzzleloaders and shotguns, you'll have a clear image and accurate aiming points out to 300 yards.

3X isn’t too much even at 25/30 yards Kyle. Most of my centerfires wear 2.5x10s on them and my MZ does also. No noticeable difference in 2.5 vs 3 IMO.

The one above this post would be a good one.

Exactly one time have I felt like I had too much scope. I kicked a pig up at about 4’ and tried to get a running shot with an encore .308 with a 3-9x.

I’ve never wished for less magnification hunting from a blind

My CVA Wolf wears an old Bushnell 2.5x with post and crosshair. Scope is from the '70s but still is clear and adjusts as it should. I won't have any shots beyond 100 yds at my places so it is just fine.

I've liked the Bushnell Elite 4500 lineup for some cheaper scopes.

I keep looking at the Leupold ML scope. Currently I'm using a Vortex crossfire it seems to work well enough.

I shot my first muzzle deer when I was like 16. Didnt scope my TC till maybe 3 years ago. For one or two weekends a year, I went vortex diamond back 3x9x40 and have been more than pleased. The omega I have has a konus or something that came with it. Same traffic there. The konus does have BDC which means nothing to me since most of those want 150grn of powder and I only shoot 100.
