    AR 15 conversion ideas

I have multiple AR’s in 223/556. I would like to convert one to another caliber that would be a n easy conversion and I don’t need a complete new upper. Not interested in the 300 blackout but would like suggestions on what calibers would work.

25-45 Sharps, 204 Ruger, 17-223.....Those are just three I can think of at the moment. You'd just need a new barrel for those you'd still use the same bolt.

If you already reload, a 20 practical would be a no-brainer for me. A hoot to shoot and really is practical to load, just change bushings in a FL bushing die.

I was gonna say the same thing. Would need a different bolt, but that’s no big deal if it’s gonna stay with the barrel/upper.

6mm Max is another one that has gained some traction, but not enough for me to jump on it yet. Same with the 300 Ham'r. I've always wanted a 6mm-45, because I reload and have tons of 556 brass, but they're hard to come by and go quick when one is up for sale.

Im in the same situation. I decided to go with a left handed 6.5 grendel upper.

I just got a 300 HAM’R a couple of weeks ago. I’ve killed a couple of deer with it so far.

I just finished building a 300 HAM’R. Shot targets with it so far, but haven’t hunted with it yet. Fun round and all you should have to get is a new barrel to convert one of your 556s.

ARPerformance makes great 6.8 barrels for couple hundred bucks and can buy a bolt for around $80+ from them as well. Just swapped out a old Wilson Combat 11.3" 6.8 barrel for a ARP 14.5" that I've had sitting in a drawer for a few years. Loaded up some 90gr gold dots and the Garmin chrono was clocking them at an average of 2900fps and grouping under an inch. That's good ballistics out of an SBR. I'd atleast swap out one of your 223 barrels for an ARP. They're known for their increase in FPS in their barrels but they only offer 6.8 and 223 flavors.

I'm the personal island of misfit toys for oddball AR calibers. I have a 6x45, 25-45, 30 Rimless Herrett, 7 TCU, 6x42, and a 350 Gremlin. My personal favorite is the 25-45.

This is the route I would go. In fact, I did, I have two 6.8 SPCs and I love the cartridge. It’s a little hard to source ammo but I had the foresight to buy plenty when I could. I have no experience with the Grendel round but it has lots of followers so it’s probably pretty good. I have killed hogs with my 6.8 as big as 270 with one shot to the high shoulder, so it would be a great deer round.
