    S&W model 41 guru’s

Back in the early 80’s I shot rimfire matches with a buddies 41 I loved that gun. I have wanted one of my own for a long time but never found the right deal until a few weeks ago. I am now the proud owner of a 1988 model 41 with a 5 inch Clark barrel and an Ultradot scope. I got around to cleaning her up and shooting a few rounds today. The firing pin strikes are light and extraction is about 50% at best. I can order an extractor and spring. The recoil spring and hammer spring are available from Wolff but what pound springs do I want? Ultradot has a rebuild kit for their scopes it is already ordered.

Have you tried giving it a good cleaning? Are you using standard velocity ammunition?

Learn the ins & outs on assembly / cleaning & if it still has issues I would hit rimfire central & S&W forum...ammo & springs are gonna play a part.

I inherited two 41's from Dad...What year did they quit making the cocking indicator?? S&W hated left handed shooters.

I field stripped it and cleaned everything really good took grips off and cleaned everything I could reach. I tried several different rounds all target ammo and CCI standard velocity.

I started on rimfire central the information there is all over the place same with S&W forum. I plan to call Clark and S&W if I cant get it to run tomorrow. I cleaned the chamber and gave it the drop test it passed so hopefully it works in the morning.

She is still not ejecting reliably ordered a new extractor and spring but no light firing pin strikes. The squirrels around here had better learn to keep themselves hidden.
