    Recommend lightweight AR

I’m looking for a light weight AR in .223/5.56 for a coyote gun.. I’ve always had either bolt guns or heavy bulky ars that I’ve hunted with but realizing 95% of my shots have been under 150 yards I want to build or buy something light weight, small slim hand guard etc.. I’m not going far enough to buy carbon fiber stuff but will spend money on accuracy.. will be something I am going to put a suppressor on..

I’ve built all my own AR’s. Probably end up spending more but you build it how you want it. Built my wife’s extremely lightweight. At least worth pricing parts out

I know lighter might be better in some cases....but none of my 15's strike me as heavy.
They feel "right" on the weight without trying to be skinny.

That said- find a model with a 6" barrel and no quad rails to help keep the weight down.

Your optics choice and mount have the potential to add more than necessary weight depending on what route you go there.

Reason I mentioned thermal is that it will add a substantial amount of weight 2# ish

I've had pretty good luck with PSA uppers. I have one that rides in my mule and is kind of an all purpose leaned up in the corner in case I need it gun.

I actually shot it on paper last weekend just to confirm zero. I didnt measure the group but would say right at an inch maybe a little under. I shot a coyote at 450 yards with it last winter.

I think this is pretty much what I have but mine has a stainless barrel.

i've built a couple ... my latest is a 20" faxon pencil barrel .. so rifle gas and fostech mach-2 13" handguard .. it's tungsten and only 5.2 ounces. paired with a minimalist stock from battellink , and a lightweight bcg ... the lower is just an anderson , got a silent capture spring in it too ... all up .. it's 5lb 9 ounces... got a 2 port brake on it and it does not move .. kicks like a 10/22 ... and feels fake ... but it sends lead way past 3100fps. so much it divets my ar500 @100 yards ... also did a 16" but with a cheap regular handguard , but it's a tad heavier..

I just bought the upper that kcnatural list above. It dropped the weight of my ar significantly. Mounted a new vortex on it last night, going to shoot it this morning.

I bought a RIA TM22 .22lr for my coyote gun. I have a thermal on it. Have yet to shoot it.

My truck gun is the same gun with a Larue trigger in 10" and it shoots right at one minute of angle with almost no recoil. I love the little gun.

The PSA lightweight SS upper is what I have. It's reliable and shoots straight.
