    Aftermarket 700 stock options?

I may need a new stock for my Remington 700 in 7mm-08. I have a Bell and Carlson Medalist now that I like, but I think the comb drop isn't enough. The top of the recoil pad sits just on the top of my collarbone, and after 10 rounds yesterday I have a nice bruise on that soft spot above it. But it hurts to shoot repeatedly when it's recoiling off that bone, and I just can't get the **** thing high enough to sit on my pec muscle and be stable.

So I'm wondering if there's anything, preferably with an aluminum chassis*, that I could look at. Something with lower comb so it sits lower on my shoulder, but with an adjustable cheek riser as that will undoubtedly be necessary.

    *preferred, but not necessarily required.

I have a MPA Ultra Lite folding chassis that I really like, but it's not cheap.

I think I’d consider higher scope rings and a cheek pad.

I’m trying to understand how your stock is on your pectoral muscle? I think if the length of pull is correct, it should be pushing against your deltoid (shoulder). I’m by no means an expert on shooting form.

If one is shooting from the prone position, the correct way is to be back directly behind your rifle, which places the buttstock more on your pecks than the shoulder. This may be the same with other positions, although I notice it more shooting prone.

May look at some of the Grayboe options. They should be drop in.

It needs to be on the meaty part of your shoulder, which is more on the pec.

I shoot on a bench, but what I can't figure out is how you're supposed to get it on your pec from the prone position. LOL But like I said, that really doesn't pertain to me anyway.

The problem is your pecs are developed and when turned at a sideways angle the stock is deflecting. Some beefy fellas the butt will hit the bicep

If you look around on Snipers Hide website you will find a lot of information on the best position for shooting prone — and that will be getting directly behind the rifle to better control recoil and keep the muzzle facing the target after recoil. Frank and many of the other guys speak with authority on this issue. When I first started shooting in F-class I too suffered soreness at the collar bone. Soon figured out I was trying to shoot while too flat. Raise up a bit in the front and the stock will slip down off the collar bone and fit more into your chest or pecks.
