    Anyone hunt with a 10" barrel 223?

Toying with the idea of getting one for shooting hogs. I know ballistically it's not ideal but I'd like a short barrel upper for my AR i can just throw in the truck. I have a 16" blackout that I love but it's expensive to shoot, looking for something cheaper per round. Seeing if anyone has actually shot with the 10" 223 setup.

    Find you a 221 fireball

I’ve killed a bunch of hogs with a 10.5” and 11.5” 556. It’s not what I grab when I’m purposely going killing, but I’ve carried it plenty out of convenience.

Get a cheap 7.62x39 with a 10.5 inch barrel. The steel case ammo is cheaper than 5.56 even, and the extra bullet weight is handy to make up for the velocity loss of the short barrel. Palmetto State has some ammo that works well, the Sabre Blade Black Tip.

Yep works fine. I carry a 12.7 suppressed now

I"ve killed hogs with my 10.5. Make sure you use good ammo and it will work. Federal Fusion, Speer Gold Dot, 77OTM loadings have all worked for me.

It's not what I'd suggest for hunting though

12.5 is my favorite barrel length for 5.56/.223.

I use a 10.5" in 7.62x39 as my truck gun and my ranch gun on my Ranger. Very handy gun and I've killed several truck loads of hogs and a few deer with it. I don't see a reason to have any longer barrel than that on any gun any more.

Is it any louder than say a 16" 7.62?

And what range have you taken those animals at?

I use a non vented muzzle brake and it doesn't seem any louder to me.

Nothing over about 180 yards for it so far but I would stretch it a little farther.
