The picture may not show it but this was a huge cow, biggest we've seen on the ground. Took her with my 18" barrel CM and she went roughly 30 yards and went down. I'm toying with taking my CM with Bondstrike for my Nilgai hunt.

You will need to get a flat billed hat if you wanna shoot it though, your daughter gets a pass.

    Which ammo did you use?
I bought a 6.5 Creedmor a few years back and acquired some ammo. Mostly 140 grain. OTM and BTHP I read lots of mixed reviews so it sits in my gun cabinet

The cow was with 147gr ELD-M. I'll be shooting the Bondstrike at Nilgai in December but out of the PRC on that one (same projectiles between the two). The ELD-M shot was well behind the shoulder and still ended up doing tons of damage to the shoulders and lungs, the wound channels it creates is crazy. I was dead against using match ammo for hunting for a long time, took a lot of evidence and dead Elk and animal pics to get me to try it and I'm a believer now. Having said that the 143gr ELD-X is pretty good too and lots of people use that and it seems to shoot well out of a wide range of rifles.

For deer I may use the Superformance 129gr SST. Factory ammo is giving me 2821 fps average out of the 18" barrel. A little less drop but a little more windage compared to the 147 ELD-M so I'm still on the fence. I can predict distance better than wind so that's a big one, but at 300 fps faster I almost can't help myself lol.

I'm thinking about taking my 6.5prc with the 156gr on my nilgai hunt in Dec. That thing is crazy accurate

You got Laguna in December? We'll be there in the 20th hunt. I need to figure out where we wanna shoot them, thinking the equivalent of the high shoulder shot if there's brush around or low heart if out in the open. I dunno much about the Bergers, I know they're great on Elk and such but for me I want something bonded or mono for the Nilgai.

These projectiles definitely lend themselves to accuracy whether CM or PRC.

We will be there for the hunt on the 6th. Was thinking the base of the neck if broadside, or the white patch on the throat if facing forward. I have some nosler 140gr accubonds, was just going to go with the heavier bullet.

That Berger would do a number on the white patch but I'd be squeamish about body shots. I don't have personal experience with them though so could be off base. Then again extra weight may be a good thing. I don't have any so easy decision for me lol.

You guys planning on shooting Nilgai with the 6.5 make sure to give us a recap. I shot mine with a 7PRC and 170g Hammers at 3050fps and the bullet core didn't even break through the body cavity on the other side. Luckily he dropped and there was not track job, but after seeing the bullet performance I felt a bit undergunned.

Only rifle hunt I've been on was a youth hunt, kids dropped them with 270's and a AR10 308. I'm confident but a bit skeered but I'm gonna give it a try. I don't think much of anything is gonna exit the beasts though from what I've read so I'm counting on an off switch drop or blow up the heart and see it fall. Still deciding on shot placement. Wife will be shooting her 308.

Where'd you hit yours with the Hammer?

I have both 6.5 cm for the wife and I shoot the 6.5 prc. I started reloading this year and settled on 140gr speer bonded bullet at almost 3100fps on the prc. Wife is shooting the 120gr copper fiocchi knockdown with great results. I like a bullet to hold and push through. Can’t go wrong with either.

Most shots in East Texas are 60-70yds although we have bottom with wheat where I could possibly shoot 350ish. In Coleman, I could shoot out to 500ish(I wouldn't but possibility is there). Right now we have 22-250, 6.5 Grendel, and 243.

let's here the argument for and against!
The calibers you currently have are enough for what you hunt and the distances you shoot. Just my opinion.

Also creedmoor can carry about 400-500 energy more than 243. That’s a big win to me for just a little more recoil.

I’d just use the Grendel for your needs.

The PRC will certainly cover what you want. A 308 would as well and there are substantially more ammo choices always available and certainly cheaper.
