    Double Rifles

Any one on the green screen with a double rifle? I recently returned from an African hunt, got to use a rental double to shoot a buffalo. Now, I'm hooked on both the rifle and hunting buffalo. Doubles are expensive, impractical and finicky, but was curious if anyone owns one.

Don't own, but have been fortunate to receive and fondle a few....some of which were worth more than my house.

Only thing I know about them is the builder sets up both barrels to impact at the same distance be it 50, 75, 100 depending to the cal / application...guy I know does it sitting on the ground & shoots the 2nd bbl fast as he can so heat isn't a factor on the impact.

I'm not into recoil so have declined offers to take a shot & some of those guns will roll him back to his shoulders.

Yep, when you start talking about pricing those bad boys, the sky is the limit.

I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of recoil in the .470 I shot, the heavy mass and weight of those rifles dissipates a lot of the felt recoil. I passed quickly on shooting the .500 and up calibers, no thanks. I’ve had both shoulders surgically repaired, don’t need a repeat of that.

One of the PH’s was “regulating” referred to by us commoners as “sighting in”a client’s rifle, was interesting to watch the process.

I’ll probably save some $$ for another hunt as opposed to buying a double. Cheaper to rent, lol.

I fondled a couple doubles at Drury’s in San Antonio today. They are heavy and expensive.

I own a 470 Nitro Express, I bought it about 30 yrs ago. It is a Cogswell and Harrison manufactured after WW ll with much better steel in it than pre WWll made guns. I've taken plenty of dangerous game animals
