Anyone have experience with the Walmart Savage in the Boyds stock?

Not in a Boyd's stock, but I've been Meaning to go that direction. It's a good shooter!. My 10-22's wearing a Boyds thumbhole stock and she loves it! -
I bought the boy the cheapest semi auto Savage academy sold, put a Amazon Bushnell on it and within 100rds we had major issues. The entire bolt assembly locked back totally where i had to basically force a guide rod in the back to get it right again. No real issues for about 40-50 more rds, then noticed the plastic part of the rear of the receiver was separating from the metal. Looked like at any moment we could have a catastrophic failure where the bolt looked like it could come back through the shooters eye socket. Yeah .no ..so i sent the weapon back to the factory. That's been about 5 weeks and haven't heard/seen anything yet. I'm sure hoping they don't void the warranty because i cut about 3/4" off that seemingly $5.00 plastic stock we'll soon see. I probably should have either held out for a more quality rifle but i had recently been layed off of my 20yr job an really shouldn't have been buying a gun, but it was his 9th bday so i believe it was necessary.. hahaha
