Some federal premium ammo in the classifieds worth a look.

Have a late 90's model 700 that shoots the 140 remington ammo Cajun Blake pictured really well. My favorite load was Federal 140 bear claws before they quit making them. On my only elk hunt had a 1 shot kill at 550 yards with the 140 federal load.

Core-Lotks are hard to beat, but I would try Federal Fusion if you can find it. I only own one rifle that won’t shoot it, a Ruger No. 1 in 25-06 that won’t group with anything except a max handload.

The action is like glass. Any of you have one and if so what factory ammo did yours like? I know every rifle is different. Just need some place to start before I start reloading which will be a while. Thanks in advance.
I have the same, and have had it 21 years.

I have shot all sorts of grain and brands thru it, winchester power points, federal fushions/powershoks/non typical, black hills, Remington corlokt

thing it likes best and holds the best groups out to 600 yards is the federal power shok (blue box) I shoot the 150s.

I have a late 80s BDL 7MM that loves the Horniday 154SP behind some H1000 and 160 Nosler accubonds behind 7828 SSC ….. I does shoot the Norma 150 factory stuff around 3/4 “

once upon a time I would have agreed with this but Green Box quality has gone to heck, Dad's rifle (late 60's Rem 700) shot nothing except Core-Lokt for 30 years and all of a sudden went from a 3/4" gun to a 3' gun, swapping brands of ammo fixed it.

Those 70-80''s 700's just flat out shoot! All the ones I've shot used cheap ammo, and all were sub moa. I'm betting you won't have to look hard to find a load that'll work. In the 7mm, I like 150 grain

Thank you all. I bought 4 boxes based on all of your feedback. 140, 150, 162 and 175. We shall see what she likes. Then the reloading adventure will begin in the future to turn this thing into a laser. I have to get the barrel threaded for a brake, get it bedded then a little cerakoate makup 😁. I have not shot the rifle yet but I am in line with it. The action on these older 700s is truly awesome compared with the slip that most rifles have these days. Always waved a rem 700 7 mag and could not pass this one up on gun broker. The elf trigger and b&c stock were just icing on the cake
