Tactical Vest vs Backpack for night vision/thermal hunts

Any of y’all use a plate carrier style vest for hunting at night? Typically carry an extra mag or two, flashlight, and extra batteries for optic but it’s annoying to tote the backpack around.

I just stuff an extra mag and extra batteries in my pocket. For a flashlight I use a headlamp. I've done the back pack, chest rig etc. It's just more unnecessary stuff and bulk in the dark. Keep It Simple.

Get a battle belt type setup. Couple mags on the belt, utility pouch for batteries. Headlamp for a flashlight with a spare headlamp in the pouch. Could always throw a pouch on the belt for a flashlight.

If you’re hunting small fields etc just throw mags, batteries, etc in your pocket. Large fields that might have you walking miles at time for hours on end I prefer a bino chest rig. Toss a couple water bottles in the bino pouch itself, batteries, mags, flashlights in the side pouches. I typically run 20 round mags, so they fit in the smaller pockets fine. Also throw an extra in my back pocket.

As stated above a battle belt type set up would be good. Wilder makes a good one that can be tossed on over what youre already wearing or you can weave in the inner belt and wear the battle belt full time. A dump pouch would be great to have to toss your spent mags, etc.

another good low profile option that can be donned and doffed quickly is a micro chest rig. I run a Haley Strategic and then a Spiritus sack beneath it. Couple rifle mags, pistol mag, leatherman, small pouch for a light and extra batteries. The abdominal pouch beneath is your utility pouch; I keep med supplies for mine and its never a bad idea to have a TQ handy.
