    Legal AR ?

Guy wants to trade me a side charging AR .223/5.56 w a 7.5" barrel. Says no stamp needed if fixed stock. He will include an unmounted adj stock but I'd need fixed to be legal ?
I know 0 bout this stuff, lol.

And not sure why I'd want a 7.5" barrel but gun prob worth the $500 trade I'd be allowing on it.

Said something bout Binary trigger, Magpul furniture, 4 mags, 3 pos safety, Yada, yada...

    Newly built. 10 rds fired.

    Trade or run ?

You would need a pistol brace for it. Any kind of stock, fixed or adjustable, will make it an SBR.

He says this makes it a legal "pistol".

Nothing that can be shouldered is allowed.

        ???

How the heck u shoot it w pistol brace if not shouldered ???? I'm gonna have to Google photos!

I'd pass, a 7.5in barrel in 223/5.56 is crazy loud if it's not suppressed. SBR-Short barreled rifle

As you might have been able to judge.....

            I don't own a suppressor, lol.

And have no use for a contraption like that, now that i know what it is.

Looks like it'd be hard to shoot!

            Thanks for replys.

Short Barreled Rifle. Any rifle with a barrel under 16”

That brace in the pic would make it legal without needing a tax stamp as it would then be classified as a pistol. (As of right now anyway)

Technically pistol braces are not supposed to be shouldered, but hopefully you don’t have an ATF agent following you around…

Yeah, a 7.5” 5.56 would not be fun at all to shoot without a suppressor. You couldn’t pay me to shoot any of my SBRs unsuppressed lol

The seller of the item you mentioned is selling a "legal pistol"... short barreled pistol because the stock is not actually installed, but instead a brace.

I would recommend you pass on it. A "side charging" short barreled item like that would be absolutely garbage to shoot, especially since you've indicated you do not have a suppressor.

Adding to what others have said, the binary trigger is kind of a grey area from the research I have done. Between the binary trigger and SBR issue you might be asking for trouble if you come into contact with the wrong person.

The binary triggers have not had any issues with the ATF. It was the forced reset triggers that they said “hey knock it off” to. If it has the pistol brace on it, it’s legal to own.

As others have said, a 7.5” barrel is silly short and without a suppressor… no thank you. However, the binary trigger is a $300+ item. Without looking up prices, you could probably sell the binary and drop a standard mil spec trigger in it, and pick up a 16” barrel and appropriate gas tube all for the $300ish you could sell the binary for.

All that for a trade item? Ehh… I’d pass.

I’d pass. I make it a habit not to buy things I know nothing about.

Especially when it comes to federal gun charges.

A three position safety has no legal implications. Can have it all you want. It just can’t be a functioning “fun” switch.

The Franklin binary is why it has the 3 position. Safe, semi, binary.
