    scope ring size ????

I did the search with no useful results.

I am looking to get a .223 ready for my grandson this coming up season.

i have a Smith & Wesson M&P 15T II 5.56/.223 full picatinny rail top. I have a simmons 3x10-44 mm scope I want to put on the gun.

I looked and didn't find a definitive answer. for the scope rings...should I go with medium or high?

I tried red dots scopes.(Sig Saur & Strikeforce II) Didn't get the accuracy I was looking for. so, looking to see if a scope is the answer.

    thanx,

I'd say as low as you can get. Ar stocks have no rise at the cheek rest. I had to get a snap on cheek rest to get my grandsons eyes up to the height of the scope.

yeah, I'll get low as I can. Just not sure if a medium base will be high enough for the 44 mm. I'll look into the cheek rest. May need that.

AR style rifles usually need a higher than normal scope mount. To be on the safe side I'd recommend a Burris on similar style p.e.p.r. style mount.

Another vote for the PEPR. I had the QD version like M16 linked. It would actually hold zero if I removed the scope to run my eotech, and then put the scope back on. I just marked the rear slot for the PEPR to go back on so I didn’t forget. That part was a nice surprise.

I did get this set up. Appreciate the heads up on it. I also...ended up taking a Leupold Freedom scope off my 300 blk and putting it on this gun. Got it dialed in at 50 yards and now need to find a good deer round for the .223 to get it dialed in for him to shoot. pigs & deer.

glad it worked out. For deer and hogs I like at least a 60 grain or heavier bullet in .223. My current favorite is the Nosler 64 grain bonded. But pretty much any bullet will get the job done with proper shot placement.

I’ve had good luck in the past with the Federal 62gr fusion.

I went today to get some Winchester 64 soft points, but they were hidden somewhere in the back(academy). I did buy a box of Hornady black 75 gn BTHP. I'll see how they do next week.

All about shot placement... But with a 7 year old...will be iffy.

My youngest son shot a buck when he was young(10 ish) . Walked up to a dead deer and ask him where he was aiming. He said back edge of shoulder. Deer was shot in the neck . I informed him of this and he said... It's dead ain't it! Couldn't argue with that.

You'd be surprised at how good youngsters can shoot. Factor in a little bit of buck fever.
