    300 win mag

This past year I decided to get a 300 win mag. I picked up a Winchester xpr with 26” barrel. I got it simply because I’m a .30 cal fan and was missing the 300 from my collection.
now to be honest, I know this is way more gun than is needed for me in particular due to areas I hunt. I get short shots 30 to maybe 100 yards. No deer killed yet, but I shot a small pig at 25yds using 180 grain rem core lokt. The pig was 50lbs at most. I was really expecting a mess… to my suprize meat damage was minimal, and oddly enough I recovered the bullet in the hide. I’ve really taken a liking to the cartridge and would like to hear your experiences on close range shots with the 300.

Most shots I’ve made within 100 yards just blow through with minimal expansion. I too have one just because and have not taken it out in sometime now. I’m just not mad at my body like I used to be 😂

I have the Savage 300 Win Mag with a muzzle brake and Accu Trigger it shoots great! It doesn't beat you up either. I love to shoot it!

Mine doesn’t have a muzzle break. It does have the inflex recoil pad that makes it a pretty tame shooter.

I absolutely love my 300WM. I've got a Browning X-bolt hell's canyon speed edition topped with a Leupold scope. I've killed Nilgai, Water buck, Scimitar Oryx, Mule deer, Eland, Warthog, Zebra, Blesbok, Springbok, Impalla, Ostrich, Wildebeest, Gemsbok just to name a few. It's been great for EVERYTHING from the 80lb springbok to Eland. I use 200gr ELDX by Hornady and I can't tell you how happy I am with it. I'm adding a suppressor currently.
