5.56 70 grain Barnes TSX experience?

I bought 3 boxes to tryout. Anyone have any experience with these bullets on animals?

I shot straight thru several hogs with 55gr. They all ran off. Not enough speed out of an AR for good expansion.

          16. We did find the hogs the next day several hours after the coyotes and buzzards. I put a good buck down with a high shoulder shot but he was still alive.

My daughter hunted with those for years when she was younger. Did very well, killed numerous deer and hogs with them shooting right behind the shoulder. I really only remember one getting away from us and it was because of a bad shot. It's a very good hunting bullet. We were using an AR platform with 16" barrel, no complaints.

.223 55gr TTSX does a good job on hogs. Good pentration and expansion with good blood trail if they dont drop.

update. Remington R15 22" fluted VTR barrel (Varmint/Target)

This. You're giving up too much velocity in the .223 out of a shorter barrel to get good expansion. Use a lighter one. 55 grains or less.

I was just giving them a test run. Not happy with the results so I switched back to 55gr Hornady Spire points. Good expansion and half the price to boot.

The AAC Barnes loaded was $19.

Those solid copper bullets like to be ran fast to get good expansion. However, for pigs I recommend poking them in the ear with this round. A pump station shot on a deer works fine.
I do prefer the .308 130gr TTSX at 3000+ fps for pigs.

If you need to shoot copper, go lighter for the speed. Those TTSX are nice, but I don't like the super small caliber performance because they don't fragment. At full expansion, it's like shooting the animal with a .75" diameter broadhead (yes, yes... shock wave and all that, but look at what it's actually cutting, and it's really small).

I think the TMK would be a better choice for game out of a .223/5.56.

Mono bullets create a deep NARROW wound channel. Shoot the 77gr tmk loaded by AAC from palmetto and it’ll wreck anything around here

Range report…..they sucked in my 5.56 rifles. Then verified it was that ammo with some 77 grain Sierra’s. Day and night results.
