22-250 vs .243 comparison (good video)

Either one kills em DRT with a neck shot. I’ve been killing everything with a 22-250 for years

100gr SP 243 bullet will usually leave an exit wound on Texas deer if shot behind the shoulder. 22-250 will need a premium 70gr bullet to maybe maybe not go through the shoulder. I like exit wounds it makes blood trailing so much easier.
if your neck shooting them I guess it may not matter.

I always been on the team 243 minimum size for deer. It’s just me.

Now I feel more confident if confronted with a 25 pound block of clay.

For more than the last 10 years I have been on team.223.

Both work, both have a role
I’ve downed deer with both & will keep both in my safe for future hunts
          basically pick your poison

What's going to do more damage to a trophy deer to either kill or cripple it to the point that it can't run away if you don't have the perfect shot? I've seen coyotes run away wounded with a less than perfect shot with the 22-250. Unless I'm shooting a deer in the head I'll choose the .243 for that.

Prairie dogs don't care which one. They vaporize with both. You can shoot a lot more P-dogs in a weekend without getting a sore shoulder using the 22-250. On a deer shot thru the rib cage behind the shoulder the lungs are blown out both sides. Deer don't live long without lungs. Most fall over within 30 yards or less. I wouldn't be trusting either to high point of shoulder shot like I do a 30 cal. that takes out the spine and sets them straight down on their butt.

45-70, starts big gets bigger, and leave's exit holes! I have killed 2 with a 243 and don't even think of it as a deer gun..... although the 243 makes a really nice long range prairie dog round!

My kid culled for two years for a ranch. Watched him kill a single horned broke off oryx at about 200 yards with a 22-250. I asked him why he didn’t shoot his 30-06 because I didn’t know he was shooting big game critters. He looked at me and smiled and said - it kills them just as dead as that 300 Win mag in the rack. I have no idea how many critters he killed with it but know for sure he burned through a 10 box lot of rounds and asked me to order more
Shooting anything with a “varmit” round just takes shot placement. I would feel confident shooting a nilgai with a 22-250 with a relaxed animal and a good rest

One of my biggest deer was killed with a little ole 222. Shot placement is key when using small calibers.

Bullets matter more than headstamps. I’ll take a 77gr TMK in a 22-250 and shoot the biggest boar hog you’ve got right in the shoulder and he’s not gonna go far. I’d prefer that over a hard bonded bullet like a Ttsx or Accubond in a 243. Give me a 95gr NBT in the ol 243 and I’d feel pretty confident killing anything in North America

I have killed more deer with a 22-250 or 220 swift than any other large caliber rifle I have owned. I showed Walt Berger a picture of a deer I shot with one of his 40 grain hollow points, his statement was son my bullets are not designed as large game bullets, but **** that's a big hole in that deer. It's all about the shooter's skills behind the gun.

Give me a heavy for caliber “match” bullet in Sierra TMK, hornady eld-M or Berger any day… They kill much more rapidly & dramatically than any “hunting-weight retaining” bullet out there …

                            F4food you’re a big A-max guy aren’t ya ?

I wouldn’t say I’m a big A-Max guy, but I have shot a few hundred, and still have a few hundred more.

Below is what I shoot the most.

                              243- 105 A-Max
                              308- 168 A-Max
                              6.5 Grendel 123 E-LDM
