Double Stack 1911 - Is it worth it?

Really been wanting a double stack 1911 in 9mm, and I don't want to spend Staccato $$$. I have been looking at the Springfield 1911 DS Prodigy, but wanted to see if there were others out there that I hadn't heard of. Any recommendations? TIA

YES!! The Staccato & Wilson EDC are top shelf.

All I used to carry were LW Commanders, so being able to jump right in with more rounds & same muscle memory was dang spiffy!!

Double stack 1911's are fun if you don't mind the extra weight. I have one of the RIA's TAC ULTRA FS HC 45ACP .. Fully loaded with 14 rounds plus one in the pipe it's comes in close to 3.5 pounds. Too heavy for me to EDC comfortably but it's a great shooter and great to have layin next to my pillow for home protection. One in 9mm fully loaded would only weigh a few ounces less unless somebody makes it with a polymer frame.

Ok, I just looked up the Springfield Prodigy and it looks like it is polymer framed. Weighs in at 2 lbs naked and would be right at 3 lbs with a full mag of 9mm 124gr nato rounds. Interesting looking piece with lots of features. Go get one!

When people watch you pop off 15 non stop from a 1911 and have that incredulous funny look on their faces is worth the price of admission.

My Staccato P is the best shooting, most accurate pistol I've ever shot. I've got between 4000 and 5000 rounds without any failure to feed. It is most definitely worth the extra coin. Keep saving until you can swing it is my opinion.

The Stealth Arms Platypus seems to be a good option and is considerably cheaper than Staccato. Using cheap and reliable Glock mags is a huge plus.

I don't know a lot about them, but rented a Prodigy at a gun range recently, and really liked it. I was surprised that my wife liked it, too. If we weren't so stingy, it probably would have followed us home.

Double stacking at Alpine range this morning. My RIA HC Ultra kinda likes these 230gr Zero bullets. 15 rounds at 7 yards taint bad for a 1911 under $1000.
