It's one of my favorite rounds..

I've prolly killed more deer with my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .257Roberts than all of my other guns combined. A finer whitetail/mule deer/antelope round you will not find. Mine shoots handloaded 100 gr. ballistic tips into nearly the same hole. I'm currently working on loads with the 100 gr. Swift Scirroco and the 80 gr. Barnes TSX. I was really disappointed when Barnes discontiued their 90 gr. x bullet. That was a real tack driver as well in my gun.

As for the Ruger, I'm not a big Ruger fan. A friend of mine has a Ruger 257 and accuracy was not that good in it. Try the Hornady 117 gr. Superformance as well.

Remington came out with a Model 700 Special Edition in .257 Roberts in 2009 I believe. Stainless steel, fluted barrel, black forend tip. Its one sweet rifle. Trying to get my hands on one now.

I'm looking at a new rifle and have decided on the .257 Roberts, couple questions.

I want a model 70 Featherweight so bad I can't see, but they were short run guns and new ones just about don't exist. I let one slip by last week and I'm kicking myself. So if anyone happens to know where a new Mod 70 featherweight .257 Roberts is, I'll buy you a case of beer, or bottle of crown or whatever.

The next best option is the Ruger 77. I'm looking at 2 different ones, the standard Hawkeye in 22" barrel, and the ultra light in 20" barrel. 20" doesn't seem like enough barrel to me, then reading back on this thread kind of confirmed my suspicions. What do yall think?

I have a M77 Mk II and a #1B both in 257 Roberts. I can't tell you much about the new models as I had to work so hard to get them to shoot I kinda swore off Ruger and went back to Remington. I hear good things about the new one though. I love the cartridge though. I load 100gr Nosler BT's and they are tough on deer. Haven't tried any of the newer bullets since it was such a pain to get the rifles to finally shoot and I've killed every animal I have shot them at.

I have owned 5, 257 Roberts and the Ruger m77 with the tang safety was the worst shooting gun I have ever owned. I could not make that gun group no matter what load or bullet I tried. Pillar bedded the gun and still shot bad. Next was a browning and it shot awful and dumped that gun. Next bought a model 70 winchester that shot good but had a short barrel and short action with a black plastic stock. Got rid of that and now own 2 Remington 700 Classics in 257 roberts both long actions. Blued classic with 87 grain bullets will shoot ragged hole groups and the Stainless classis with shoot 1/2 groups with barnes 100 grain tsx bullets. Never lost a single animal shot with a 257 roberts.

I have the exact rifle you are looking for, i bought it for my wife. it has a silver nikon 4.5-14x40 on top. It is a shooter and fine looking too!!

As far as the 257 roberts round, i bougfht this gun for my wife and i shoot it more than her. I shoot the 117gr btsp hornady +p's and they will flat out put the thump on a whitetail!!

Bought the wife a Ruger in 257 Roberts, great little gun. Fun to shoot and will put em down. I take it when she sleeps in sometimes.

I absolutely love the 257 Roberts round !! Not a big fan of ruger but that's just me , my Roberts will shoot nice neat Cloverleaf's at 100 yards with 42 grains of IMR 3031 pushing 117 gr round nose bullets

The one you described is Ruger ultra light. I have one in a 22-250 and will not consider selling it. Sweet rifle , barrel is pretty thin, but it only takes one shot !

I have a Browning Gold Medalion in 257 that i totally love. It loves the 110 acubonds so well that it puts them in a 1/4" hole at 100.

In 7 years I have not once had to adjust the scope. .
Pretty much exactly this, freaking great gun

Yep ! Used to have one. Every deer I ever shot with it ran off.....for about 40 or 50 yd. Gave it to my grandson for his first deer rifle.
