    Which Climbing Sticks?

I primarily climb using a one stick, but I still want to have a set of regular climbing sticks for certain situations as well as to let my kids use when needed.

Legdog let me use his Shikar sticks, but I found them to be heavy and clunky (which drove me to the one stick.) There are several lighter and more compact options that I've considered. They are pricey, but I think sticks (or climbing method) are a critical piece and worth investing a little extra on the front end.

What sticks do you use? What do you like/dislike? If you were going to purchase new ones, which sticks would you buy?

I absolutely love my Tethrd one-sticks. They are pricey, but now that I've used them, I can't imagine going back to anything else. I use three sticks with 20 inch amsteel aiders on each. I can get pretty far up there with only 3 sticks, especially if there is a branch or two on the way up. At basically 3 pounds total, plus a few ounces for the aiders, it's hard to beat IMO.

I like that I can strap them to the bottom of my pack, and they are narrow enough that I don't catch branches when walking down the trail, and they are about as rock-solid on the tree as I can ask for. They are loud out of the box, but some stealth strips take care of that no problem.

Thanks. I'm leaning toward the Tethrd One Sticks over the Latitude Carbon SS sticks. I REALLY like the looks of the Tree Styx, but at $190 apiece there's a diminishing return on the price:weight ratio.

I bought a set of Tehrd Skeletors for my first set of climbing sticks this past season. Used them on a couple of public land hunts and so far I like them but they are also all I have ever used so nothing to compare them to. One of the hunts I used them on last season was a NWR hunt down south and I packed them in a pretty good distance and relocated twice and packing them around was a non-issue. I do like how they attach to the tree and can get them on and off pretty quick. There are lighter ones out there for sure but for what I will use them for I think they are going to work fine for now anyway.

The carbon latitude is what I used last year and will use this year. They did not look like they would bite the tree good to me, but I was wrong. Def use stealth strips on them or they sound like rattling antlers when they hit each other.

I use four 32' Novix double step full length sticks.

I also use a set of 30" Hawks. I have had this set of Hawk 30" for 6 years. I got this set of Hawk 30s from the original owners of Hawk in Michigan before they sold out to GSM. GSM has ruined every company that they have acquired and they have acquired a bunch. I have never had any problem the Hawk 30s. I add one rapid rail with the Hawks to get more height.

I carry both set ups with a strap over my left shoulder. I carry my platform in my pack and my bow in my right hand.

Weight is not an issue with me although these set ups are not heavy. If I can't carry 4 sticks (11.5 lbs) slung over my shoulder I need to be hunting out of a heated elevated "shooting house".....that is Iowanian for box blind.😀 I very seldom hunt more than a half mile from the back door of my shop or from where I park my side by side or truck. BTW....I like hunting out of elevated, heated "shooting houses" also during firearms season. 😀

I used Skeletors last season and was pleased with them. Tremendous bite on the tree. The off step is great and comfortable. Aluminium construction and not heavy at all.

Arrowsmith, how high can you get with those 32"ers?

Skeletors. They do what I want, plenty light enough for me ( I ain't backpacking all over tarnation, just walking on my lease), didn't break the bank and are very secure on the tree.
