    Questions after my first hang

    1) How do you carry your sticks and platform on the tree with you and have east access to them?

    2) Are you using anything special to pull your bow up? I used record that I hitched to my Molle loops.

3)I made the climb with my chest bino harness (FHF gear) on but soon figured out it was getting in the way. Are y’all wearing a bino harness while in the tree or storing binos some other way?

it was a successful first hang. Wife and 5week old daughter were hanging out in the truck about 150 yards away and go to watch. Ended up sticking a single sow that made it into the neighbors and this sow from a group. She only went 40 yards.

    1. 2 Sticks hang on "hooks" on molle straps on saddle, 1 on each hip. Hang 1st stick while on ground. Tuck end of strap of 2nd stick in pocket with stick leaning against tree. Climb 1st stick, pull up 2nd and hang it. Platform is in backpack.

    2. retractable bow lanyard. Don't remember brand.

3.i climb with bino harness and its a pain, but haven't found a better way. When I get on platform I hang harness around tree with lid open and binos in it for easy access.

      1. I use 4 stix, so I have 2 on one hip and 1 on the other.( I use Nite Ize dual biner and I remove the gate that I'm actually gonna hang my stix from (by a paracord loop). That way I'm not fighting to get it open) Platform is on backpack( use to hang it off my saddle directly behind me but actually find it easier to just keep it on my back pack and its quieter). When I get to my top stick I just squat a bit while standing on the bottom step. Puts me pretty much right in line with where I need to hang the platform.
      2. I use a HSS bow hoist attached to the back of my saddle ( attaches to the molle strap). By keeping it directly behind me it tends to stay out of the way.
      3. I don't use bino's ( just range finder) and it stays attached to a hook inside my backpack with about a 2 1/2 foot paracord. I can use it, stash it on the outside of my pack.
Like most of us, you're gonna find that this is a VERY trial-and-error kinda thing.
      Congrats on the pig!!!

First things first…congrats to you and your bride on the baby girl! And congrats on the hog!

        1. Fighting sticks on my saddle is why I went to one sticking. LOL! I will probably invest in some sticks before the season, but packability and weight will be primary considerations. I don’t currently have a stand alone platform, but when I had Legdog’s Tethrd Predator, I hung it from an S-biner with the wire gate removed while I climbed.

        2. As I’ve gotten more comfortable with one sticking, I’m playing around with climbing with my pack on my back. I’ve been able to pare it down but it’s still fairly heavy (15ish lbs?) with my camera gear. I’ve only made one climb with it (last night) so I’m still testing, but it may be still be easier to just continue to use the end of my rappel rope to hoist it up after I’m situated at hunting height.

I use my dynaglide retrieval rope to hoist my bow. I attach a small carabiner to a back loop on my saddle so it stays out of the way when I climb.

A lot of people like the Doyle’s retractable gear hoist. I like the concept, but I’m trying to resist adding another piece of gear to my setup.

        3. I’m trying to figure out the best solution for my bino harness. I like having a harness for the binos, plus a pouch on either side for my rangefinder and Osmo Pocket 3 camera. I want to have both easily accessible when I’m hiking in or hunting. But, I’ve had some issues with my bridge “pinching” the sides of the accessory pockets.

One thing I was able to do is lower my tether to about chin height to reduce the angle and somewhat alleviate the pinch.

          Thanks guys.

I ended up setting up two sticks from the ground. I climbed to the top of those and still wanted to get higher so I climbed back down and hung the third stick on the top stick. Climbed to the top and set the third stick.

I had my platform in my backpack. I swung my pack to my front and got it out to set it. The biggest problem I had was the sticks hurt my feet badly. Maybe I had the wrong shoes on or maybe it’s just a case of putting a lot of pounds on a little step. I’m going to climb with some stiffer soled shoes on next time.

The paracord tied to my bow worked pretty well. When I got the bow up I stored the cord in the dump pouch that my tether comes out of.

I can’t imagine one sticking. More power to those that do but swinging like a monkey ain’t my thing right now, but I also am not really worried about packing stuff in very far.

Maybe I missed it from a previous thread, but which sticks do you have? Stiffer soles should help. Longer standoffs could also make a difference.

I’ll try and get pics. I can shoot a video and text them f someone can post it. I made some pretty sexy paracord loops. It’s so simple and fast once you develop a system and routine.

one on each hip, one one tree, one in hand. Platform on a hook I made in center of back of saddle.

4 sticks, hang #1/2 from ground. #3/4 go on hip loops.
Climb up once with backpack and bow.
Use custom saddle suspenders with bow spider.
Platform hangs on back of saddle.
                      No need for binos.

                          3. Dont use binos
