    Choosing your first saddle questions

I love that this forum was started!

I want to get a saddle before next season but the options are endless and there really doesn’t seem to be a way to test them out before buying.

So I have a few questions regarding the saddle itself (not talking sticks, other accessories, etc)

How many of you bought a saddle, didn’t like it, then bought another and found that it made a huge difference? Or are all saddles “pretty similar”

What piece of advice would you give to someone who wanted to buy one saddle and stick with that one?

I just searched around online and read reviews and eventually just picked one I liked the looks of that came highly recommended. There’s a handful of brands I feel like you can’t really go wrong with. And you won’t know what you like until you get some actual hunts in with them.

That said I went with a buzzard roost saddle and have zero complaints. Customers service is great. Made in America. I haven’t found anything I would change on it other than maybe opting for the bridge that unlatches but that’s a minor things.

Having said all that. I’ll probably be listing it for sale soon. Not that I don’t like it, just probably won’t be needing a saddle for hunting in the near future due to changing scenery so don’t really want to just leaving it sit around.

Youtube has a lot of info/videos that are helpful. The good thing is, you really cant go wrong with any saddle, they all seem to be high quality. The sticks on the other hand, be careful. Once you gather some info it will be easier to choose equipment.
I run Tethrd equipment, but its the only stuff I have tried.
One thing of note, when you decide on the brand, make sure its sized correctly.

I’ve only used the Tethrd Phantom. It’s extremely well built, light weight and relatively comfortable. I think a two panel will be more comfortable for me and I don’t want to sacrifice quality or weight, so I’ve ordered a Latitude Merhod 2.

I don’t know anywhere around where I live in SE TX that carries saddles, but. Cinnamon Creek Ranch carries a full line of Tethrd products. That Ultralock SD looks pretty sweet! It would probably be worth the drive to go look at them in person and at least get a feel for the options.

Like a new bow, try out as many of them as possible. Being that it’s still somewhat of a niche industry, not many store fronts carry them. Network as much as possible to see if anyone in your area has one and other needed gear. YouTube as much as you can stomach. Once you decide on one, practice a lot with it before you hunt from it.

Size is key. If you put on weight like I have it’ll change the comfort level 100%!

I know Scheels carries Latitude Outdoors. Not many store fronts seem to carry them as of yet.

Where do you go to try out saddles?

I can go to a bow shop and try out bows, but I’ve never seen a place where you could try out saddles before buying.

been thinking about a Cruzr archon but only because I have a friend who has one and really likes it, but it’s not in my size.

Unless you have friends with benefits it might take $$$. I will say this, dont think you can go wrong with the companies mentioned. I like the Tethrd stuff.

I know some companies have expos or "camps" you can go to and test out some equipment. Might have to travel to do that though

You can YouTube Mobile Hunter Expo. Gives you an idea of equipment out there with company names you may have never heard of.

I like my latitude maverick. But if u want one to try I think the xop gear is the best bang for your buck u can get a saddle all your ropes and a platform for around 200 r so just need to buy sticks to see if u like saddle hunting

I will be honest, when I purchased my equipment I was very skeptical I would like it. Until I climbed the tree with it a few times and practiced from a tree. It became very obvious the advantages of hunting from a saddle. Shot a buck my very first hunt. The ease with drawing and shooting is indescribable.
Just buy good equipment, may take some experimenting. I have found the method and sticks is the most difficult to figure out.

                            100% agree with this!

So I’ve been looking at the Cruzr Archon or the buzzard roost reloaded.

any reason I should go with one or the other? Are there any specs you see on one that make it superior to the other?
