Both... sort of... Its the acid in the coke and it adds to the sweetness. You can do the same if your gonna put them on the pit. Soak them in Coke/DP for a day or two then season and throw on the grill.

We use the same recipe, but use a can of beer instead of coke. Wonderful

Do the same with a brisket. Coke and Red Sauce (for seafood) over the top and slow cook.

So you cut up the ribs to get them in the pot ?

I put a whole slab of ribs in an electric roaster. Seasoned with grub rub, added a bottle of bbq sauce, can of coke and 2 shots of Jack Daniels. Let er go for about 7 hours. I had chicken on the smoker, so when the ribs were ready, I put them on the pit for about 30 minutes just to give em a smokey flavor. I'll never try to cook ribs on the pit ever again!!

                    Thanks for the recipe.

I've done ribs with BBQ sauce and Itallian salad dressing before. Put them in a big pot, pour the liquids over them, and pop 'em in the oven on about 300 for several hours...you'll grab a bone, pull it out and the meat will fall off before you get it to your plate.

Thanks to texbowj....the ribs were great. They were so tender that the meat fell off of the bone in the crock pot. I had to pick out the clean rib bones and use a ladle to get the meat.
