    Roast recipe

Anyone have a good roast recipe? Or possibly something else to do with a hind quarter of a doe I shot? Perhaps in the smoker or oven or crockpot. Really just looking to try some new stuff!!! Thanks in advance!

Crock pot. Roast, Lipton onion soup mix, cream of mushroom (1 can) salt and pepper, 1 can of chicken broth and 1 can of water. Season roast, put in crock pot, add broth and water. Cover roast w/ dry soup mix and cover with cream of mushroom. Cook on low for 8 hrs. Garlic, bacon mashed potatoes with gravy from the crock pot.

coat roast with olive oil, season with salt, rosemary, thyme, pepper, stuff with garlic, and sear or brown in cast iron pot

1 lb. carrots, peeled and cut into large chunks
2 lbs. potatoes, peeled and cut into large chunks
        1 diced onion
        1 stalk celery, diced
3 cups of liquid beef broth ( I use "Better than Bouillon" to make broth )
        1 cup of red wine
2 Tblpsns of corn starch mixed into 1 cup of cold water

add beef broth, to browned meat and stir , let cook for 5 minutes
then add red wine , stir, and let cook for 5 minutes

add vegetables on top of roast, cover with top, and let cook on slow & low for several hours.

than stir vegetables and turn meat over, cook for another 2 hours , add water if needed due to evaporation

than add water with corn starch, stir mixture into pot, cover and let cook for 1 hour on low.

you can also cook in a crock pot if you wish

Preheat oven to 300° and shove a few cloves of garlic in the roast and salt it.
Make a Roux in a good size cast iron pot. 2 TBLSP of crico or oil and 2 TBLSP of four. Start with heating the oil on a high heat for almost 5 minutes and turn it back to a medium heat. Add your four and get to stirring. Takes about 30 minutes of constant stirring. Once the roux is done, add about a 1/2 cup of water.
Put the roast in a cast iron pot, cover it with the lid and cook it for 4 hours, turning the roast once halfway through cooking. Cook some rice and pour the roux over the rice and roast and serve it up.

I have a few roast recipes here: http://www.mywildkitchen.com/categor...roast-recipes/

Most of them are recipes made from leftover roast ( http://www.mywildkitchen.com/elk-roa...venison-roast/) or carnitas ( http://www.mywildkitchen.com/wild-pork-carnitas/). The carnitas recipe is for a pork roast, but venison works too.

Good luck! I'm going to try the recipes above too. Cajun Blake's gravy looks awesome.

I used a Sika roast but I wish I'd used two and had lots of leftovers. I had to cut back on some of your ingredients because I didn't have them, but it was unbelievably good. If you have your recipe posted somewhere let me know and I'll link up to it since yours has more ingredients that would probably enhance the flavors even more. My version, inspired by yours, is more of a "Introduction to Roast 101" version while yours is like the "Advanced Roast 401." Thanks for sharing your recipe.

                      you da best Sista thanks

I don't have my recipe posted, just typed it out based on my memory from cooking so many deer roasts over the yrs.

you know how it is, as a cook we rarely measure things ... we go by sight and taste

This is easy and turns out every time. Brown roast on all sides and put in crockpot. Mix 4 cups of water with 2 pkgs dry ranch dressing mix, 2 pkgs dry Italian dressing mix, 2 pkgs brown gravy. Pour over roast and cook on low 6-8 hours.

Did this with brown gravy mix added and in a electric pressure cooker. Turned out excellent!
