    Canned Crappie.

A man I worked with told me years ago about his family making canned crappie.

He said he would go home and open the lid on a mason jar of these and sit with some crackers and eat the whole jar.

Told me that it was like putting the whole skinless gutless fish in the jar and they became so tender you could eat everything but the backbone.

This was told to me probably 20 to 25 yeas ago and in reading some of the recipes on her got me to thinking.

Anyone heard of or know of this? Cajun Blake if I remember correctly he said this came from down your way.

    Thanks.

We canned yellowfin tuna and amberjack and it turned out wonderful.. I can get the recipe and share that if you are interested. We used a pressure cooker. I don't see why crappie wouldn't work...

What's the difference in this and canned tuna fish?

Pickled fish. Just sounds nasty. I gag at the smell of sardines.

When I was a kid, I ate sardines for breakfast!

I am getting the recipe typed and ready. Buzz: there isn't any vinegar in my canned recipe at all.. so not really pickled.. Do you like salmon or tuna out of the can, in spring water or oil?
