I won't waste my game on folks who don't like the game taste. I give them chicken. I love the natural taste. We make deer burgers and all I add to the ground deer is an egg. It helps stretch the meat. It tastes spoof good. Plain on toasted bread. Fantastic.

I soak trout/redfish in buttermilk, but have never heard it for venison...best trick I have seen/eatin was saoking it in salt water brine

I soak it in regular milk if I am going to chicken fry it.

Did this in December with back strap then battered and fried it. Me and both my boys got sick, my oldest threw up. Made the meat taste way too rich and heavy. That was my experience with it.

Never tried buttermilk but regular milk is what i soak mine in over night. Only way my mom will eat it. Liked to never have gotten her to try it because she had some my dad cooked that hadn't been soaked and she didn't like the gamey taste. She will clean it up cooked this way though. LOL

Some game birds in my opinion need a good soaking in buttermilk but deer and other such meats need no attention. Let the meat do the talking

I let it soak in the ice chest and bleed out.. Change ice and repeat for about three days. Process. Then when I prepare I soak in milk for at least 6 hours before cooking. The less blood in the milk the better (less gamey) taste it will have. It works.

On another note. I dont mind a bit of game flavor because it taste like deer! Its the others I cook for that dont like it.

But if everyone liked what the meat was saying, there wouldn't even be this thread.

The buttermilk tenderizes the meat as well. Brineing in salt water does the same thing and also makes it more juicy and flaverful. I do my wild pigs that way.
